I’ve worked in clothing retail for one day in my life. A friend of mine post college was managing the local abercrombie and fitch in my area. They needed help for the dreaded Black Friday post Thanksgiving. Being poor and living in the city I agreed to the days work. She forewarned me of the dress code particularly because I didn’t own any current A&F clothing. I opted for a sweater (that was a few years old, gasp! and all I owned from that store), a pair of Seven Jeans (which at the time were all the rage circa 2001), and a pair of Puma Sneakers.
I got to work for the day and was told that I would abercrombie and fitch not be allowed to wear what I was wearing being that it was not current. They told me I could use the employee discount and purchase clothing to wear while working. I explained I was doing this for a day as a favor being they were short-staffed, and the last place I would spend money on a normal basis would be A&F & that today would be no abercrombie and fitch different. Reluctantly they let me borrow clothing (I wore it, folded clothes for 10 hours and then refolded what I was wearing and put it back on the floor). Grateful to be done with one day of hell I worked, I wasn’t surprised when I came across this story by an abercrombie and fitch employee. Sad but true: Apparently if you are disabled you may not have the abercrombie and fitch look either…
